‘Momohana-an’ machiya house: a traditional holiday house (vacation rental) ideally located in the downtown Kyoto area of Kawaramachi.

Take a few steps from the main streets, and discover a hidden entrance known only to locals. This hidden entrance will lead you down an atmospheric pathway lined with historical machiya houses until you reach ‘Momohana-an’, your very own private Kyoto machiya.

Slide open the door to reveal a spacious machiya with a layout and design that reflects a quintessential machiya house. A tatami area ('misenoma') that was once used as a space to conduct business is now the perfect place to sit and relax. A spacious kitchen will allow you to prepare light meals during your stay. Enjoy a quiet morning admiring one of 2 serene inner gardens - a unique feature of this machiya house. When there are more than 3 guests, the living room can be converted into a sleeping area.

Upstairs you'll find a Western-style bedroom, and a Japanese room. Close the sliding fusuma doors to create 2 private areas, or keep them open to create a spacious bedroom. This renovated Kyoto machiya house also includes modern facilities such as WiFi, IH stovetop, washing machine, and more.

Bedding Set-up: The number of beddings prepared will match the number of guests you have made a reservation for, and not the maximum capacity.
Please take a look at the floor plan for details on what beddings are available in this house (as it will differ depending on each house). To make a request for a specific bedding set-up, you must contact MACHIYA RESIDENCE INN at least 2 days before your check-in date. Up to 2 children (5-years-old and younger) staying under our “Children’s Policy” will be required to share a bedding with another guests.

Is this a hotel in Kyoto?: No, this is not a hotel in Kyoto. Our machiya homes are self-catering, private Japanese-style holiday homes (vacation rentals), which are reserved exclusively for 1 group per day. (Guests will not be sharing the house with any other guests). As there are no staff on-site at the house, our traditional Japanese machiya homes are perfect for travelers interested in immersing themselves in local culture in Kyoto!

If you require assistance during your stay, our friendly staff are available via email or telephone between 10AM~7PM. (Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day.)
Please note that as this is a self-catering holiday homes, and not a hotel, housekeeping during your stay is available for guests who stay 4 night or more.
However, our staff are available for garbage pick-up, to provide additional towels during your stay, and more. We also encourage our guests to reuse bath towels to help us reduce the consumption of water.
