Heian Jingu Shrine

| Comment(0) | Trackback(0)
I went to Heian Jingu last weekend. This shrine is dedicated to Emperor Kanmu, who transferred the capital from Nara to Kyoto, and Emperor Komei, the last emperor to reside here.  On the premise there is also a beautiful garden called Shin-en garden and I wanted to share some photos with you today.

This huge torii gate is one of the landmarks of the shrine.

It is such a spiritual place and definitely worth visiting.

This is the pond of Water lilies in the garden. As you can see on the left side of the photo, some maple leaves have begun turning red/yellow. The peak season for autumn leaves is in the late November.

The view of Higashi Shin-en is absolutely breathtaking.
