Tofukuji Temple is located just a 5-10 minute walk from Kohakuan and the temple is one of the most popular autumn leaves spots in Kyoto. There is also the oldest and biggest sanmon gate among Zen temples in Japan.

You will get to see a magnificent view of autumn leaves from three different bridges spanning the sengyokukan ravine. My recommendation is to walk to the deck constructed halfway across the Tsutenkyo Bridge to enjoy the bright foliage in the ravine.

Consisting of 3 highly designed gardens; South Garden, North Garden and East Garden, Hojo Garden is famous amongst Japanese gardens for its superior design and innovativeness.

The peak season for autumn leaves is the end of November. If you are in Kyoto around that time Tofukuji would be one of my top recommendations to visit.

 Have a good day!
