Machiya House

Located right along the Takasegawa River, this machiya house emanates the warmth and history of the surrounding neighborhood. Enjoy the view of the changing seasons during your stay at Hanakagari machiya house.

The famous Takasegawa River — visit during the spring, and you’ll be welcomed by pink cherry blossoms. Come during the summer to see the vibrant greenery, the rich colors of red and orange in the fall, and a crisp atmosphere in the winter.

The glass-paned entrance doors of this house will reveal to you a new view with each season. Relax amongst this atmosphere as you experience the unique design of when architecture and nature complement one another.

“Hanakagari” machiya house is located in a neighborhood known as Zaimokucho– an area where timber and lumber shops lined the streets. From Japanese ryokan inns, to wooden machiya houses, these lumber zaimokuya shops were an integral part of society.

By maintaining the original layout, and structure of the house, we have preserved the integrity of this machiya –breathing new life within the machiya house by including motifs of the cherry blossom (a symbolic image of nature), and modern comforts.

Reserve the adjoining house, Hanagoromo machiya house, to stay with up to 10 guests.

Glass-paned doors allow for natural light to brighten the room, and creates a spacious and comfortable space from where you can view the Takasegawa River.
