“Hisui-an” machiya house represents Kyoto City by design & architecture — incorporating elements both traditional and modern to reinterpret the kyo-machiya house.

Its exterior is coated in dark shikkui (stucco walls), using a technique often used by craftsmen when building shrines and temples. The wooden doors and lattice windows offer a warm contrast to the dark exterior. By utilizing a lighter hue of wood, not only does it create a welcoming atmosphere, but allows for plenty of natural light to brighten the interior.

GUEST ROOMS

ENTRANCE

Enter the machiya to find a inviting and open space. Exposed wooden beams allow you to appreciate the traditional architecture, while modern fixtures & furniture allow you enjoy a relaxing space.

DINING ROOM & KITCHEN

An open kitchen combines with the dining area to allow friends and family to utilize the space together.

A wooden counter, and seating for up to 4 guests is the perfect area to enjoy a meal purchased from the nearby markets, or Kyoto Chuo Oroshiuri Ichiba (Fish Market, Auction, & Restaurants).

BATHROOM

Beyond the stairs is the spacious bathroom area. The sleek, black walls offer a simple design with earthen plaster, and slate tiling.

A freestanding bathtub offers a luxurious space for you to rejuvenate after a day of sightseeing, and waterfall shower finishes this stylish interior.

GARDEN

From the bath, enjoy the view of your own private garden. The bright greenery of the garden is striking against the darker backdrop.

JAPANESE Style Room

A modern take on the traditional room — lined with dark tatami mats, and high ceiling provides a spacious room to be used as a bedroom or sitting room. The large window allows a flood of natural light, and the desk in the corner is perfect place to ready for the day or relax during your stay.

WESTERN Style Room

To the right are 2 twin-style beds for your comfort. Stretching across the ceiling is a large wooden beam, which reveals the impressive architecture. Peer out the windows to a view of the grand Shimabara Omon gates.
