Machiya House

Tucked away in small side street, this machiya house is the perfect hideaway for you during your time in Kyoto.

Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto

A traditional Japanese house that has been carefully restored, this machiya retains the charm of its historical past, while providing you with a comfortable yet elegant retreat. Sekka-an machiya house is nestled between two grand, and important temples of Kyoto: Higashi Honganji Temple & Nishi Honganji Temple.

One is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while the other is considered to be not only the largest wooden structure in Kyoto, but in the world. Experience first-hand everything this historical city has to offer.

Dark, wooden accents, rich colors and textures, and plenty of natural light make up the undeniably elegant atmosphere of this traditional house. The high-ceilings are designed with bamboo reed, while doors feature the quintessential latticework to permeate the space with light.

This machiya house retains its original architectural structure to cater to groups of smaller groups of family and friends. Although compact in size, its modern facilities and enviable location provide no shortage of reasons to stay!

The distinct circular features of the “manjyu-kawara” roof, lattice doors & windows, welcome you into Sekka-an machiya house.

High ceilings, and a skylight window, paired with a large wooden beam not only reveal the impressive architecture, but provide a stylish yet comfortable space. The kitchen is fitted with modern appliances — enjoy light meals during your stay.
