Found at the end of a narrow alleyway, you will first need to pass through a wooden gate nestled between two machiya townhouses. As you move further along the path, you will discover just how steeped in history the location of this machiya is.
Figurines of deities to your left, “Nagaya” row houses, and remnants of an old-fashioned well can still be appreciated in this neighborhood.
Throughout the house, you will find that wooden frames, rather than modern-day material, encompass the glass windowpanes. The earthen walls utilize techniques perfected by Kyoto craftsmen, which allows an otherwise simple wall feature to take on a refined and polished, look and feel.
