Spend the day in this machiya house marveling at its beauty as its view changes from day to night, and throughout the seasons.
  • ‘Yorozuha’ Machiya Holiday House Showcasing Kyoto’s Craftsmanship Handcrafted Kyo-karakami (hand-stamped traditional paper) decorate sliding doors and walls to showcase the skills of Kyoto’s craftsmen. The motif featured here is known as “gosan-no-kiri” - featuring leaves of the auspicious Paulownia tree. This particular crest was created specifically for the Emperor of Japan.
  • ‘Yorozuha’ Machiya Holiday House Traditional Machiya Architecture A quintessential Kyoto-style machiya exterior. It features wooden ‘koshi’ lattice, a ‘noren’ entrance curtain, and a window on the 2nd floor known as a ‘mushiko mado’. If you look closely at the roof of the 1st floor, you’ll notice a little figurine. This figure is of ‘shoki-san’ - a guardian of machiya homes. Many machiya homes place this on the roof to protect and ward off evil spirits that may enter one's home!

Located in Kyoto's historical Higashiyama area. A short walk to the Gion area, Kiyomizu Temple, and Yasaka Shrine.
Admire the beautiful & historic atmosphere of Gion, one of Kyoto's most famous 'flower' districts, just a short walk away. 'Yorozuha' machiya house is also within walking distance of Kenninji Temple (the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto), Yasaka Shrine (famous for its outdoor food stalls and festivals held throughout the year) and many other historic temples and shrines are within walking distance of the property.

You'll also find that 'Yorozuha' is conveniently located a leisurely walk from the Shijo-Kawaramachi area, the bustling shopping & dining district. We recommend stopping by 'Kiyamachi' street, a quaint street lined with both traditional & modern restaurants that overlook the Kamogawa River. You'll also find several convenience stores, supermarkets, bus stops, and Kiyomizu-Gojo train station all within a short walking distance.

Jump on the Keihan train (Kiyomizu-Gojo Station), and you'll have direct access to the red 'torii' gates of Fushimi Inari Shrine, Uji - famous for its green tea planations, north to the Kyoto Imperial Palace, and everything in between!
