A traditional Japanese house that has been carefully restored to capture its unique architecture and beauty.

Before its restoration, Hanagoromo machiya house was what architects referred to as a “kanban kenchiku” (看板建築). Its exterior had been once been remodeled to represent a more modern structure (often for the purpose of a business or shop), while its interior remained largely untouched. From its brilliant white walls, to the wooden lattice doors and windows, each design element of this machiya house has been painstakingly restored to its former glory.
