‘Kotohi’ machiya house: a renovated traditional Japanese holiday home (vacation rental) located in downtown Kyoto in an area known as ‘Myomanjicho’. Named after Kyoto’s famous Myoman-ji Temple, this neighborhood has been an important area of Kyoto since the early 1600s. With a number of different transportation options, you’ll have great access to the historical streets of Gion, Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, and many local restaurants & cafes during your stay.

Step into this traditional machiya house into an inviting space with sky-high ceilings, an impressive garden view, and relaxing atmosphere. The 1F showcases a sofa where you can enjoy a cinema experience on the projector screen, kitchen, and luxurious bathroom. Enjoy a meal with family & friends in the dining room area, or relax in the tatami room while admiring the ‘matsu’ pine trees in the garden.

Upstairs, you’ll find a cozy reading nook, 2 bedrooms and an additional toilet. After a day of exploring Kyoto city, grab a book off of the book shelf and enjoy a moment of zen. During your stay, enjoy a great night's sleep on the queen-size bed in the western-style bedroom, or a futon bedding in the Japanese tatami room.

A little background as to how ‘Kotohi’ earned its name: ‘Kotohi’ comes from the word  ‘kotohigusa,’ which is another name for the Japanese pine tree. You can find pine tree motifs throughout the house, and in the tsuboniwa garden as well. It is often said that the sound of a pine tree blowing in the wind resembles the sound of a koto (Japanese harp), which also inspired the interior design of this machiya house.
