Room Features

Room Features

  • Rikyu-an Exterior: Located amongst a street lined with a number of other traditional machiya houses, “Rikyu-an” is enveloped by Japanese cedar (杉板; sugiita), and features the traditional “ichimonji-kawara” roof style.
  • Rikyu-an Entrance: Dark, green tiles adorning the walls allow for a beautiful contrast between the white stucco walls. In the hall space adjacent, you will find a counter table and chair from which you can enjoy a calm atmosphere.
  • Rikyu-an Living Room: Decorative crossbeams, constructed from natural wood, stretch across the ceiling to bring character to the living space. Slide open the “Shoji” doors to find a “tsuboniwa” Japanese garden, characteristic of many traditional machiya houses.
・2 x Japanese futon bedding can be set
  • Rikyu-an Kitchen: Sharing the same space as the living room is the kitchen. Although designed with the traditional machiya in mind, Rikyu-an successfully blends the traditional with the modern by utilizing a jet-black counter top and retro sink fixtures.
  • Rikyu-an Bathroom The spacious bathroom, with high-sloping ceilings, offers a serene space to relax. Constructed using the Japanese “Hinoki” wood, a sandy-coloured wood often used when building Noh theatres, palaces, and temples, allows for you to relax in luxury.
    ・Bathtub/Shower
    ・2 x Toilets (1F)
  • Rikyu-an 2F Western-style Room: The main bedroom boasts a separate dresser-room and closet for your convenience. Here, you will find a large mirror, table, and bench that you can utilize as you ready for the day or while you unwind after a day of exploring the city.
    ・2 x Twin-sized Beds
  • Rikyu-an 2F Japanese-Style Room: Traditional tea ceremony tools decorate the shelf to complement the round window and dramatic ceiling (which has remained since the house was first built) to create an airy yet cultured atmosphere.
