Relax while marveling at the rich textures found in the wooden ceiling, brilliant metals, and walls reminiscent of stone highlighted by natural light.

Take in the beautiful ambiance of the two lush gardens, and traditional character of the house from the ‘goemon’ cauldron bathtub, Japanese living room adorned with silver leaf, and exposed wooden architectural features.

Innovative take on a Kyoto machiya As you approach a quaint and historical neighbourhood, a striking machiya comes into view. Discover the beauty of “Sumihotaru Honoka” behind the traditional plastered and wooden facade.

Fresh inner garden Slide open the gate to reveal a ‘tsunboniwa’ garden featuring a Japanese palm tree, ferns and moss. Enjoy this peaceful oasis before entering your machiya.

Perfect place to unwind Relax in the ‘goemon’ deep cauldron bathtub, or under the rainfall shower. With glass doors and views of the two ‘tsunboniwa’ gardens, this bathroom is the perfect place to refresh.

Stylish kitchen and dining area Warm light illuminates the textures of the wooden ceiling and walls reminiscent of stone. Enjoy a meal in this luxurious space.

Bedding Set-up: The number of beddings prepared will match the number of guests you have made a reservation for, and not the maximum capacity.
Please take a look at the floor plan for details on what beddings are available in this house (as it will differ depending on each house). To make a request for a specific bedding set-up, you must contact MACHIYA RESIDENCE INN at least 2 days before your check-in date. Up to 2 children (5-years-old and younger) staying under our “Children’s Policy” will be required to share a bedding with another guests.

Is this a hotel in Kyoto?: No, this is not a hotel in Kyoto. Our machiya homes are self-catering, private Japanese-style holiday homes (vacation rentals), which are reserved exclusively for 1 group per day. (Guests will not be sharing the house with any other guests). As there are no staff on-site at the house, our traditional Japanese machiya homes are perfect for travelers interested in immersing themselves in local culture in Kyoto!

If you require assistance during your stay, our friendly staff are available via email or telephone between 10AM~7PM. (Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day.)
Please note that as this is a self-catering holiday homes, and not a hotel, housekeeping during your stay is available for guests who stay 4 night or more.
However, our staff are available for garbage pick-up, to provide additional towels during your stay, and more. We also encourage our guests to reuse bath towels to help us reduce the consumption of water.
