Machiya House

The Takasegawa River is revered for its ideal location, and captivating scenic backdrops it displays with each changing season. Revel in the beauty of Kyoto during your stay at Hanagoromo machiya house.

A traditional Japanese house that has been carefully restored to capture its unique architecture and beauty.

Before its restoration, Hanagoromo machiya house was what architects referred to as a “kanban kenchiku” (看板建築). Its exterior had been once been remodeled to represent a more modern structure (often for the purpose of a business or shop), while its interior remained largely untouched.

From its brilliant white walls, to the wooden lattice doors and windows, each design element of this machiya house has been painstakingly restored to its former glory.

Traditional Japanese machiya houses are often admired and praised for their clever use of space and deceivingly spacious layout.

From its exterior, Hanagoromo looks to be a compact machiya house with limited space.

However, slide open the doors and be pleasantly surprised as the house unveils a comfortable atmosphere, and hidden rooms the further you delve into the house.
