Tsuboniwa Garden Reflections – Machiya House Features
The greenery of this tsuboniwa garden reflects beautifully on the floor of our machiya house, ‘Suigetsu’ Machiya House. This reflection is purposeful, and is a particular Japanese architectural design seen in temples and machiya homes such as this. Throughout the various seasons, you can not only enjoy a garden view as it is, but also its reflection upon the floor.
In Kyoto, Jisso-in Temple is famous for this garden reflection. During the summer, when the maple leaves are vibrant green, this phenomenon is known as “tokomidori”, when the maples have turned red it is known as “tokomomiji”, and when it snows, it’s known as “yukigesho”.
Enjoy the season’s garden views in this traditional Japanese house, and experience the 4 seasons of Kyoto when you stay with us in our private holiday house rentals!
